Girls varsity volleyball has had an interesting season so far. Sophomores Hannah Havilchech and Megan Powell have had to step out and help out the team.
The Girls played Edsel Ford and Taylor Prep recently. The team lost to Edsel in spite of an attempt to come back in the third game.
“We just had a really good rally up until the last set and we lost it, but it was really close,” Powell said.
Varsity volleyball has had a competitive year but their biggest competition is Woodhaven.
“Definitely Woodhaven, they just have really good hitters,”Powell said. It always keeps us up on our toes.”
The girls volleyball is led up front by outside hitter senior Emma Vermette and middle hitter Jordyn Guyzik. The back row is anchored by Maddy Rushlow, and Havilcheck is the team’s setter this season.
The team’s record is 1-4 with hopes of a good comeback.
“I hope we have a really big comeback,” Havilcheck said. “I feel like we haven’t really shown our true colors yet. It’s just the beginning.”
The team did have a successful tournament earlier this season, finishing first at the River Rouge Tournament
“We’re all friends with each other, the energy is there,” Powell said. “We all love playing with each other and winning occasionally.”
The team plays southgate at southgate on thursday, October 7 at 7pm
