Setting out for success

Bears hockey more determined than previous years

It’s November and the hockey team is looking to get back on the ice after last year with less games and a delayed start.
“I feel like it’s gonna be a great atmosphere this year. We got a couple theme nights, such as one with a Christmas theme and [everyone should] come out and support us,” senior center Alex Moon said.
Losing their first seven games last year, the boys are working hard in order to improve their coordination on the ice.
“What we’re doing this year is working out two days a week at 6:15 [in the morning] in the weight room, and we changed our practices than last year because now we have more in depth of what we need to work on,” Moon said.
These boys have had a change in leadership after their coaches from previous years decided to retire leaving them with two new coaches to run the team.
Coaches Adam Desana and Paul Ciravino are new for this year, and the only returning coach is Chad Bonmon.
“We had fresh new faces come in… with the new coaching staff changes we have all experienced new things, so we are all just learning how to develop with everyone to adapt and overcome,” senior team captain and goalie Aden Jordan said.
These new coaches have changed the daily regiment of the boys in order to condition them for the tough competition ahead.
“[The hardest thing we have had to overcome is] definitely the new rules and regulations that our coaches have put into place to help motivate and improve our team and our stats,” Jordan said.
The team has set some high goals for this year to improve their record from last year.
“[Our biggest goal this year is] to go to states…we work hard in the weight room and work hard on the ice and we just hope we get better,” junior team captain William Heskett said.
The Bears are looking for your support at the first home game of the season against Ann Arbor Father Gabriel Richard on December 3 at the Yack Arena.
“[Students should come to our game] because this year is gonna be different. We’re a lot more focused. We’re a lot more determined than we were last year,” Jordan said.
